Vuelta a Burgos 2026: Matthew Brennan wins opening stage, Oscar Onley takes overall lead in stage two
The inaugural stage of the 2026 Vuelta a Burgos, a 165‑km route ending on the climb to the Castillo, was won by British rider Matthew Brennan of Visma‑Lease a Bike. Brennan out‑sprinted teammate Ben Tulett to claim the victory and the first purple leader’s jersey, while the early breakaway of Josh Burnett, Javier Ibáñez, Valentin Ferron and Unai Aznar was eventually re‑absorbed.
In the second stage, from Arcos de la Llana to Valle del Sol, Oscar Onley of Team Picnic PostNL surged ahead on the final ascent, defeating Giulio Ciccone and taking the overall race lead from Brennan. Enric Mas completed the podium, and the stage featured attacks from riders such as Jonathan Milan, Giulio Pellizzari and other contenders.
The race, held in the Burgos province of Spain, continues to serve as a key preparation event for the upcoming Vuelta a España, with several WorldTour teams and their leading riders taking part.
