Matthew Hollingham finishes 61‑day Arctic‑to‑Africa triathlon in memory of fiancée

Matthew Hollingham, a 25‑year‑old student from Wheathampstead, Hertfordshire, completed a 61‑day Arctic‑to‑Africa triathlon covering about 2,500 miles across ten countries. The endurance challenge, which began in the Arctic Circle and ended in Tangier, Morocco, involved swimming across icy waters, running 37 back‑to‑back marathons and cycling the long distance, despite hypothermia, heatstroke, a strained quad, broken support vehicle and wild‑fire smoke.

Hollingham undertook the feat to honor his late fiancée, Lovisa Arnesson‑Cronhamre, who was killed in a hit‑and‑run in 2023. He said, "I did it all for Lovisa, and I would do it again to see her one more time." The journey raised money for children's charities, notably Save the Children. His mother, Sue, described the effort as "the ultimate endurance test," while quadruple Ironman champion Chrissie Wellington called it "a mind‑bendingly epic feat."
