Matthew Lillard hints at original character in Superman 2

Actor Matthew Lillard has suggested that his upcoming role in ‘Superman 2: Man of Tomorrow’ may be an original character rather than an established figure from DC Comics. During a promotional tour for the Prime Video adaptation of ‘Carrie’, Lillard was asked if fans would recognize his character. He responded, “It’s a very James Gunn moment. So, I wouldn’t worry too much about finding him in the comics.”

This comment follows previous speculation that Lillard would portray Barry Allen, a theory that DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has already dismissed. While his specific role remains unannounced, the film is set to feature David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, who will form an unsteady alliance to face the antagonist Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger.

Other returning cast members include Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen. ‘Man of Tomorrow’ is scheduled for theatrical release on July 9, 2027.
