Matthew Macfadyen stars in BBC spy thriller Legacy of Spies

The BBC and MGM+ have released first-look images for the upcoming eight-part spy thriller, ‘Legacy of Spies’. The series is adapted from John le Carré’s ‘The Spy Who Came in from the Cold’ and ‘A Legacy of Spies’.

Matthew Macfadyen stars as the iconic spymaster George Smiley, marking the character’s first television appearance in four decades. Charlie Hunnam portrays Alec Leamas, a veteran intelligence officer tasked with trapping an East German intelligence official. The plot follows Leamas as he recruits Doris Quinz, an East German woman, to smuggle Stasi documents to the West, triggering a series of events in Cold War Berlin.

The production, which has concluded in the Czech Republic, features an ensemble cast including Daniel Brühl as Josef Fiedler, Hugh Laurie as Control, and Joe Alwyn as Jim Prideaux. The series is produced by The Ink Factory, the team behind ‘The Night Manager’.
