Matthew Madden appointed chair of Grain Producers Australia

Matthew Madden has been elected chair of the grain grower advocacy body Grain Producers Australia (GPA). Madden, a wheat, barley, chickpea and sorghum grower from New South Wales, has served on the NSW Farmers' grains committee since 2016, on the GPA board since 2021 and as deputy chair since 2023.

Long‑time GPA chairman Mr Large stepped down after five years in the role and 16 years on the board. Southern region director Mark Schilling of Cunliffe on South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula was elected deputy chairman. Former National Farmers' Federation executive Mitch Hooke also retired from the GPA board.

In related agribusiness leadership changes, Paul Burke, a Northern Territory farm‑sector director, was appointed independent chair of the National Farmers' Federation Horticulture Council, succeeding Jolyon Burnett. Livestock export research body Livecorp announced a search for a new director to replace Prue Bondfield, whose term ends at the November AGM; applications close on 4 August.
