Matthew Maggio expected to sign with KHL's Admiral Vladivostok

New York Islanders prospect Matthew Maggio is expected to sign with Admiral Vladivostok of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). While some details are still being finalized, the move is anticipated to occur before the KHL season begins on September 5.

Maggio, 23, was selected 142nd overall by the Islanders in the 2022 NHL Draft following a standout junior career with the Windsor Spitfires in the OHL, where he earned league MVP honors and led the league in scoring.

After signing an entry-level contract with the Islanders, Maggio spent three seasons with their AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Islanders. During his tenure in the AHL, he recorded 35 goals and 81 points in 187 games but struggled to secure a call-up to the NHL. The move to the KHL is seen as an opportunity for Maggio to secure a consistent scoring role and more playing time. The Islanders are expected to retain his NHL rights while he plays overseas.
