Matthew McConaughey addresses potential Texas governor candidacy

Actor Matthew McConaughey has addressed ongoing speculation regarding a potential run for Governor of Texas. During a promotional appearance for the new Apple TV series ‘Brothers’, McConaughey stated, “Not yet,” when asked if he would eventually enter politics.

McConaughey revealed that the storyline in ‘Brothers’, which involves a character deciding whether to run for governor, is rooted in real-life events. He noted that the interest in politics depicted in the show stems from actual experiences, stating, “That governor stuff was all real, and then we added that to the show.”

While McConaughey declined to run for office in 2022, he has not entirely ruled out future involvement. In 2024, he attended the National Governors Association’s Summer Meeting, describing his ongoing engagement with political topics as a “learning tour” that has spanned approximately six years.
