Matthew McConaughey returns with ‘The Rivals of Amziah King’

Actor Matthew McConaughey has returned to leading roles with the release of his new neo-Western crime thriller, ‘The Rivals of Amziah King’. Written and directed by Andrew Patterson, the film follows Amziah King, a charismatic honey producer and bluegrass musician in rural Oklahoma, who becomes embroiled in a criminal plot after his estranged foster daughter returns. The film features a cast including Angelina LookingGlass, Kurt Russell, and Cole Sprouse.

McConaughey’s performance has been noted by critics as a significant return to the spotlight, marking his first major leading role since 2019. During a recent appearance at the Filmland festival in Little Rock, Arkansas, he received the Variety Legend & Groundbreaker Award. He also discussed his career, including his experiences working with director Christopher Nolan on ‘Interstellar’.

In a separate recent appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’, McConaughey performed a bluegrass-inspired cover of Ella Langley’s hit song ‘Choosin’ Texas’ alongside the band The Last Bison. The performance, which featured McConaughey playing the mandolin, was inspired by an audience suggestion and tied into the musical themes of his new film.
