Matthew Morey's body recovered from Mississinewa River
The body of 18-year-old Matthew Morey was recovered from the Mississinewa River in Delaware County, Indiana, on Saturday, ending a search that began Wednesday. Morey, a Delta High School graduate, disappeared after jumping from a bridge into the river with three others; while the other three reached safety, Morey was swept away.
The search involved aircraft, boats, drones, and K9 teams, though efforts were previously hampered by dangerous water levels and swift currents.
This incident is part of a series of weather-related fatalities in Indiana this week. Other deaths include a 58-year-old woman found in a cornfield near Yorktown after her vehicle was swept off a road by floodwaters, a 4-year-old boy killed by a fallen tree in Jennings County, and one person reported dead following a potential house explosion in Portage.
