Matthew Rhys makes history at 78th Emmy Awards

At the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards held in Los Angeles, actor Matthew Rhys achieved unprecedented historical milestones. Rhys became the first performer to win two lead-actor awards in a single night, securing Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for ‘Widow’s Bay’ (Apple TV+) and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for ‘The Beast in Me’ (Netflix).

These victories also made Rhys the first actor to win lead-acting Emmys across three distinct categories: drama, comedy, and limited series. His previous drama award was earned for his role in ‘The Americans.’

The comedy series ‘Widow’s Bay’ was the most successful program of the ceremony, winning six awards including Outstanding Comedy Series, directing, writing, and supporting acting categories. Other major winners included ‘The Pitt,’ which took home Outstanding Drama Series, and ‘DTF St. Louis,’ named Outstanding Limited Series.
