Matthew Rhys Secures Two Emmy Nominations for Comedy and Thriller

Welsh actor Matthew Rhys has been nominated for two Emmy Awards this season. He received a nomination for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Mayor Tom Loftis in Apple TV+’s “Widow’s Bay,” and a second nomination for Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series for playing Nile Jarvis in Netflix’s thriller “The Beast in Me.” Critics praised his ability to span both genres, with The Guardian calling him “the winner of the entire day.” Rhys previously won an Emmy in 2018 for his role in “The Americans.” The nominations were announced ahead of the September awards ceremony.

Rhys expressed excitement upon learning of the nods, noting a congratulatory text from actor Gary Oldman and urging studios to back original programming.
