Matthew Smith prepares top sprinters for upcoming races

Sydney-based trainer Matthew Smith is preparing two top short-course horses for upcoming races this weekend. Headwall is scheduled to defend his title in the Concorde Stakes at Randwick, which transitions to Group 2 status this year. This marks Headwall’s return to racing following a pastern injury that kept him sidelined last spring.

Smith’s other top sprinter, Way To The Stars, is preferred for the $750,000 Group 1 Moir Stakes at Sandown in Melbourne. However, his participation depends on track conditions. While the horse has performed well on soft tracks, the majority of his wins have occurred on good surfaces. Smith noted that the horse will likely only compete if the track is not too wet, as Melbourne faces a possibility of daily showers throughout the week.
