Matthew Smith reports career-best stable of elite horses

Trainer Matthew Smith has described his current stable of horses as the strongest of his career. The Warwick Farm-based horseman, who learned from industry figures Aidan O’Brien and Bart Cummings, is currently tied for second in the Sydney premiership with nine winners.

Smith’s upcoming racing schedule includes several key entries: Headwall is competing in The Shorts at Randwick to secure a spot in the $20 million Everest, while group 1-winner Idle Flyer and Queen’s Gamble are set to compete in the 7 Stakes and Tea Rose Stakes, respectively. Additionally, the stayer Aethelwulf is favored in the group 3 Newcastle Cup.

Following a career-best season with $6.94 million in prizemoney, Smith attributes much of his success to the acquisition of Luskin Park in the Lower Hunter. The 46-hectare property serves as a spelling and pre-training facility, allowing Smith to implement training methods learned in Ireland that focus on mental recovery for horses.
