Matthew Wright, longtime Ellen DeGeneres Show producer, dies at 52

Matthew Wright, a longtime executive producer for The Ellen DeGeneres Show, has died at the age of 52. According to a GoFundMe page established for his family, Wright passed away on October 30 while working remotely in Los Angeles. His death was described by the fundraiser as an “unfathomable tragedy,” though no specific cause of death has been disclosed.

Ellen DeGeneres shared an emotional tribute on Instagram, describing Wright as the “glue” that held the production family together. She remembered him as a smart, kind, and funny individual with whom she had been planning a new professional collaboration. Fellow executive producer Andy Lassner also paid tribute, noting that Wright had visited the set of The Jennifer Hudson Show just hours before his passing.

Jennifer Hudson, who also benefited from Wright’s work on her own daytime program, expressed her sadness over the loss of the producer who helped launch her show. A fundraising campaign is currently underway to assist Wright’s husband, Justin, and his family with funeral and memorial costs.
