Matthias Bütler appointed head of SBB Passenger Transport Market

Matthias Bütler has been appointed as the permanent head of the SBB Passenger Transport Market division and will join the Group Executive Board. Bütler had been leading the division in an interim capacity since April 2026 following the departure of Véronique Stephan.

Bütler previously served as a member of the division's management for three years, overseeing marketing and market development. His professional background includes leadership roles at Swiss Travel System and Jungfraubahn, as well as various positions within SBB passenger transport between 2006 and 2013.

The Passenger Transport Market division employs more than 4,000 people, including subsidiaries, and generates annual revenues exceeding four billion Swiss francs. SBB CEO Vincent Ducrot highlighted Bütler’s customer orientation and entrepreneurial thinking as key assets for addressing future challenges such as tariff simplification and digitalization.
