Matthias Jaissle discusses health struggles and coaching career
Newcastle United manager Matthias Jaissle has shared details regarding his personal struggles with health and injury that shaped his career. In an interview with the BBC, the 38-year-old German coach revealed that he was diagnosed with a neck tumor at the age of five, an experience he says taught him the importance of health and gratitude.
While he successfully overcame the tumor to pursue football, a severe knee injury at age 20 ultimately forced him to end his playing career prematurely. Jaissle played professionally between 2007 and 2014, representing Hoffenheim and training with Stuttgart, and earned a cap for the German youth national team.
Following his playing days, Jaissle transitioned into coaching, working with Liefering, Red Bull Salzburg, and Al Ahli before taking charge at Newcastle United. His team currently sits in ninth place in the Premier League. Among the players under his management is Bosnia and Herzegovina international Amar Dedić.
