Matthias Reim discusses late fatherhood and Schlager industry trends

German Schlager singer Matthias Reim has shared personal reflections regarding both his family life and the current state of the music industry.

In recent interviews, the 68-year-old singer discussed the challenges of being a father later in life. Following the birth of his daughter Zoe in 2022 with partner Christin Stark, Reim expressed concerns about his ability to be present for her future milestones, such as completing her studies, given his age. He noted that while he views his daughter as a “gift from heaven,” the prospect of aging while she is still young brings unavoidable worries.

On a professional level, Reim offered a critique of the modern Schlager scene. He argued that many new artists struggle to stand out because they lack individuality, often relying on “the same sounds and beats.” He emphasized that true success in the industry requires the courage to be different and to move away from established, repetitive musical patterns.
