Matthieu Pigasse faces scrutiny over luxury Caribbean vacation

French investment banker and media owner Matthieu Pigasse is facing criticism following reports by Le Canard enchaîné regarding a luxury vacation on Mustique in the Caribbean. Documents indicate Pigasse booked a 19-night stay at The Terraces, a neo-Venetian style villa, between July 26 and August 14, 2026.

The estimated cost of the stay is approximately 434,000 euros, based on standard rental rates for the property. The estate features nine suites, three swimming pools, and a staff of 18 people, including chefs, butlers, and gardeners. The controversy stems from the perceived contradiction between Pigasse’s self-described “left-wing banker” persona and his proximity to progressive political movements, such as La France Insoumise, which advocates for fiscal justice and wealth redistribution.

In response to the reports, Pigasse defended his actions, stating, “My private life is for me alone. I do not have to answer to the morality police. I go on vacation with whom I want, when I want, where I want, and I am free to use my money.”
