Matthieu Pigasse maintains presidential ambitions in France
Investment banker and media owner Matthieu Pigasse has indicated he is not ruling out a candidacy in the upcoming French presidential election. Despite being unable to participate in the social-democratic primary, Pigasse stated on France Inter that he intends to ‘be useful’ by advocating for ‘disruptive policies.’
Pigasse criticized the current primary process as a ‘primary of co-optation,’ arguing that candidates are choosing other candidates rather than allowing for a broader selection. He outlined three main objectives for his political involvement: blocking the far right, working toward the unity of the left, and demonstrating the feasibility of radical economic shifts, such as public debt cancellation.
Addressing recent criticism regarding his high-cost summer vacation in the Caribbean, Pigasse acknowledged that the reported expenses might be shocking. However, he defended his position by stating that while he possesses a wealth exceeding 100 million euros, he believes the wealthy should contribute more through taxation and that political alignment should be based on values and commitments rather than personal finances.
