Italian player Mattia Bellucci was defeated 7‑5, 6‑3 by Argentina’s Sebastián Báez in the first round of the National Bank Open (Masters 1000) in Montreal. The match marked Bellucci’s return after a three‑week absence caused by a right‑knee injury sustained during Wimbledon training, which forced him to miss the Wimbledon Championships and compete with a brace.

Bellucci said he felt physically fine but made many errors and lacked match rhythm. He plans to continue his North‑American swing, targeting the Cincinnati tournament, the Winston‑Salem event, and the US Open later this summer.
