Mattia Negrente wins Ruota d’Oro cycling race in Terranuova Bracciolini
Italian Under 23 champion Mattia Negrente won the 56th Ruota d’Oro – 94th Gran Premio Festa del Perdono in Terranuova Bracciolini. Competing for the XDS Astana Development Team, Negrente secured the victory following a high-intensity race covering 170 kilometers.
Negrente initiated a decisive breakaway with Frenchman Pierre Saint Martin approximately 70 kilometers from the finish line. Although they were pursued by a chasing group, Negrente won the final sprint at Viale Europa. The podium was completed by Pierre Saint Martin in second place, followed by Nicolò Pizzi in third and Denmark’s Otto Schultz Jolving in fourth.
The race featured 161 starters, with only 20 riders completing the course. The course included four ascents of Cima Berna before finishing through the hills of Valdarno. This victory marks the first time an Italian rider has won the prestigious international Under 23 event in four years.
