Matty Healy portrait shortlisted for British Photography Awards

A portrait of The 1975 frontman Matty Healy has been shortlisted for the 2026 British Photography Awards. The photograph was captured by Newcastle-based photographer Neil Ferry during Healy’s rehearsals for the Sunday For Sammy charity show in February.

Ferry, who began his photography career at age 48, described the image as a “vision of a timeless portrait” intended to feel distinct from contemporary publicity photography. He noted that the musician’s weary appearance following long rehearsals contributed to the photograph's character. This is one of three works for which Ferry has been shortlisted. The winners of the awards are scheduled to be announced on November 1.
