Maturín residents protest prolonged power outages
Residents in eastern Maturín, Venezuela, blocked the road toward La Pica on Sunday, October 25, 2026, to protest continuous electricity failures. The demonstrations included 'concacerolazos', tire burning, and barricades made of logs following more than nine hours without power.
Affected neighborhoods include La Democracia, Sueños de Bolívar, Alí Primera, El Diluvio, and the Vista Hermosa urbanization. Protesters expressed frustration over the recurring nature of the blackouts, citing damage to household appliances and the impact on vulnerable populations, including children.
Members of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) arrived at the scene to mediate the situation as tensions rose along the major roadway.
