Matvey Safonov establishes himself as Paris Saint-Germain starting goalkeeper

Matvey Safonov has established himself as the starting goalkeeper for Paris Saint-Germain after a period of competition. Originally arriving in July 2024 as a backup, the Russian goalkeeper secured his position following the injury of Lucas Chevalier in late 2025.

Safonov has since become an undisputed starter, contributing to two Champions League titles. Speaking to the Russian media, he noted that his primary goal was to work hard and prove his capabilities, a mission he believes he has accomplished. Despite his current status, Safonov emphasized that he does not view his position as permanent and remains focused on the daily competition within the squad.

Looking ahead, Safonov stated that his new objective is to be recognized as one of the top five goalkeepers in the world.
