Maugeri and Horti di Pavia launch nature-based palliative care project
The Fondazione Horti di Pavia and Maugeri have launched a new collaborative project titled ‘Horti Extra Art’ to integrate nature and art into the palliative care process. The initiative is designed to support patients, their families, and caregivers by providing an immersive sensory experience outside of a traditional hospital setting.
Under the agreement, the Horti gardens in Pavia will be reserved every Monday—a day typically closed to the public—specifically for patients from the ICS Maugeri Pavia palliative care department. Participants will engage in walks through greenery, interact with plants and animals, and view art installations to complement their clinical treatments.
Project leaders, including Maugeri Executive President Luca Damiani and Horti Director Alberto Lolli, emphasized that the program aims to humanize care and provide a sense of normalcy for those facing irreversible illnesses. Pavia Mayor Michele Lissia noted that the project contributes to the city’s mission to serve as a ‘City of Relief’ by enhancing the ethical and social quality of local healthcare.
