Maui and Kauai mayoral primary results show leading candidates

In the recent nonpartisan primary elections in Hawaii, incumbent Maui Mayor Richard Bissen, Jr. maintained a significant lead, securing 47% of the vote against Yuki Lei Sugimura, who received 36%. Both candidates are positioned to advance to the general election on November 3.

In the Kauai mayoral race, which is being contested due to Mayor Derek Kawakami being term-limited, Kauai County Council Chair Mel Rapozo is leading. Early results show Rapozo with approximately 40.9% to 43% of the vote, ahead of former mayor and current council member Bernard Carvalho Jr., who holds 32.1%. Felicia Cowden placed third with 16%. The top two candidates from the mayoral race will move on to the November general election.
