Maulana Fazlur Rehman announces united opposition alliance in Pakistan

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), has announced the formation of a ‘united opposition’ in Pakistan. Following consultations with opposition leaders in both the Senate and the National Assembly, there is a principled agreement to move toward a unified parliamentary role.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary party has officially approved joining this opposition alliance. PTI leader Asad Qaiser confirmed that party leadership would meet with Maulana Fazlur Rehman to discuss the coalition. PTI representatives indicated that their focus remains on upcoming political movements and seeking judicial recourse against the government regarding contempt of court issues.

While the alliance aims to create a collective parliamentary front, further consultations are expected to finalize the strategy. Regarding the potential inclusion of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Maulana Fazlur Rehman noted that the party is currently part of the government, though he emphasized the need to create an environment for an All Parties Conference to determine a joint course of action.
