Maule region promotes biomass energy and wood technology
In Chile's Maule region, new initiatives are targeting the improvement of wood-based energy production and the support of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the forestry sector.
In Molina, Leñería Óscar Rioseco has implemented 'Trocknner' technology, a heat pump system funded by the Ministry of Energy's Integral Biomass Centers Program. The investment, exceeding $39 million CLP, allows for controlled temperature and humidity to accelerate the drying process. This technology aims to provide more efficient firewood, reducing smoke and increasing heat output by minimizing moisture content.
Additionally, the 'From Forest to Energy' meeting held in Talca brought together regional authorities from the Economy, Agriculture, and Energy sectors to discuss the energetic use of forest biomass. The event focused on transforming wood byproducts into energy and new business opportunities. With the Maule region hosting approximately 18.8 percent of Chile's total forest plantations, officials emphasized the importance of management plans, certifications, and technical coordination to strengthen the local biofuel economy.
