Maurice Kengne Kamga elected President of ITLOS
Maurice Kengne Kamga, a Cameroonian diplomat and jurist, has been elected President of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) for the 2026–2029 term. The election took place on October 1, 2026, during the institution’s sixty-second administrative session in Hamburg, Germany.
Kamga, a 59-year-old legal expert, has served as a judge at the tribunal since 2020. His professional background includes twelve years as a legal secretary at the International Court of Justice in The Hague and various roles with the United Nations and the FAO.
Argentina’s Frida María Armas Pfirter was elected Vice-President alongside him. The leadership duo will oversee the tribunal’s work in resolving disputes related to maritime boundaries, ocean resources, and undersea issues.
