Mauricio Anglés sentenced to 17 years for kidnapping and torture in Valencia

The Provincial Court of Valencia has sentenced Mauricio Anglés, brother of the disappeared Antonio Anglés, to 17 years and 9 months in prison for the kidnapping and torture of a man in November 2021. Anglés, who had previously changed his identity, was convicted alongside five other men for crimes including illegal detention, assault, threats, robbery with violence, and property damage.

The court found that the group coordinated to intercept the victim at Camí Canyada de Roquet using two vans to block his vehicle. Masked individuals armed with firearms forced the victim from his car and transported him to a warehouse in Catarroja. The motive for the attack was an extortion attempt to demand 200,000 euros. The tribunal ruled that the evidence presented was “plural, objective, and suitable” to overcome the presumption of innocence.
