Donald Trump reposts map labeling Venezuela as U.S. 51st state

U.S. President Donald Trump shared on his Truth Social platform a graphic that overlays the map of Venezuela with the United States flag and the caption “State 51.” The image repeats a similar post he made in May after saying he was “seriously considering” making Venezuela the 51st state of the United States. In the accompanying message Trump said Venezuela is still “not ready” for elections but noted “advances” and praised interim president Delcy Rodríguez, calling her work “fantastic” and highlighting benefits for U.S. companies and the Venezuelan people from the oil market.

The repost comes as the Venezuelan parliament and opposition groups announced they will begin Washington‑backed political talks aimed at a democratic transition. The post also references Trump’s earlier remarks about adding Canada or Greenland as a 51st state, underscoring the broader U.S. interest in the region following the January capture of former President Nicolás Maduro and the installation of Rodríguez as interim leader.
