Mauricio Kuri urges end to political dispute over polygraph tests

Querétaro Governor Mauricio Kuri González has called on political actors to avoid a “political circus” regarding the use of polygraph tests for public officials. The governor addressed recent calls, including from the PRI, to require his cabinet members to undergo such examinations.

Kuri stated that while he personally underwent the test following a request, participation for his cabinet members remains a voluntary decision. He clarified that his original proposal was intended for individuals aspiring to hold security-related positions or seeking candidacy in the 2027 elections, rather than a mandatory requirement for current administration staff.

The governor emphasized that the goal of these filters is to prevent individuals linked to organized crime from reaching public office. He noted that Querétaro is currently the only state where all security corporations have passed 100 percent of their confidence control exams.
