Mauricio Lambiris' Mustang Catches Fire in San Juan TC Pit Stop
During the Desafío de las Estrellas race at Autódromo El Villicum in San Juan, a fuel leak ignited a fire in the pit lane while the Uruguayan driver Mauricio Lambiris was refueling his Ford Mustang. Two mechanics were briefly surrounded by flames, but no one was injured thanks to fire‑proof suits. The Asociación Corredores Turismo Carretera (ACTC) activated its safety protocol, deployed the safety car and halted the competition. Lambiris exited the vehicle on his own and the car was withdrawn, ending his participation in the event. Video of the incident spread quickly on social media. Later in the same race, driver Diego De Carlo experienced a separate fuel‑tank issue when a fuel canister remained attached to his Chevrolet Camaro after leaving the pits, but that incident also caused no injuries. The cause of the pit‑lane fire is under investigation by ACTC.
