Maurienne region offers historical heritage and Alpine skiing

The Maurienne region in Savoie, France, offers a blend of historical heritage and outdoor activities. Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, a town of approximately 8,000 residents, serves as a cultural hub featuring the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Cathedral and the Opinel Museum, which chronicles the history of the famous French folding knife.

In the Haute Maurienne Vanoise area, located between the Vanoise National Park and the Italian border, six ski stations—Valfréjus, La Norma, Aussois, Val Cenis, Bessans, and Bonneval-sur-Arc—are accessible via train from major cities like Lyon and Paris. The region provides 350 km of alpine slopes and 200 km of Nordic tracks, with specific travel incentives and combined lift passes available for visitors.
