Mauritania and Germany sign €35m deal for training and blue economy

Mauritania and Germany have signed a €35 million cooperation agreement to fund vocational training and the development of the blue economy. The deal was finalized in Nouakchott by Mauritania’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Development, Abdallah Souleymane Cheikh Sidiya, and the German Ambassador, Florian Reindel.

The funding is divided into three streams. A total of €20 million is allocated to technical and vocational education and training (TVET). These funds aim to improve training quality, align curricula with labor market demands, and support the construction and rehabilitation of training institutions through private sector partnerships.

The remaining €15 million will focus on biodiversity protection in coastal areas and the blue economy. This component is designed to support marine scientific research, the sustainable management of natural resources, and the protection of coastal ecosystems. It also aims to address challenges such as overfishing, marine litter, climate change, and coastal erosion.
