Mauritania summons Iranian ambassador over diplomatic protocol violations

The Mauritanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Iranian ambassador, Javad Abou Ali Akbar, on September 14 to issue an official protest regarding actions deemed inconsistent with diplomatic customs and rules.

While the ministry did not specify the exact nature of the misconduct, local media reports suggest the protest stems from the ambassador's visit to the village of Boussidra in the Boutilimit district. Following this visit, Mauritanian authorities reportedly arrested three individuals associated with the meeting.

In its official communication, Mauritania emphasized its commitment to bilateral relations but stressed the importance of respecting national sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and strict adherence to diplomatic protocols. The incident occurs amid broader regional concerns regarding Iranian influence in North and West Africa.
