Moroccan and Mauritanian journalist unions condemn digital incitement
The National Syndicate of Moroccan Press and the Mauritanian Journalists Union have issued a joint declaration calling for a unified front against hate speech, disinformation, and digital incitement on social media platforms.
In a statement released on October 24, 2026, the two organizations warned that anonymous accounts and certain media outlets are spreading misleading content designed to fuel hostility and undermine the historical and human ties between the Moroccan and Mauritanian peoples. The unions emphasized that individual offensive comments or isolated social media posts do not represent the entirety of either nation.
The declaration urges journalists to verify information before sharing and to adhere to professional ethics. It also calls on digital platforms and authorities to combat content that incites hatred, discrimination, or violence, while ensuring that such measures do not restrict legitimate freedom of expression or criticism.
