Mauritanian Coast Guard rescues 315 migrants off Nouadhibou
Mauritanian coast guards rescued 315 migrants from a drifting wooden pirogue off the coast of Nouadhibou during the night of August 19 to August 20. The vessel, which originated from Gambia, was found adrift in a perilous situation.
The group of migrants consisted of 191 Senegalese nationals (including three women and 29 children), 123 Gambians (including 40 women and 11 children), and one individual from Mali. The rescued passengers included men, women, and minors, as well as infants, all of whom were described by authorities as being in a difficult humanitarian situation.
