El Salvador braces for tropical wave bringing heavy rain and storms

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) warned that a tropical wave will move quickly across El Salvador on Tuesday, bringing showers and thunderstorms. Rain will begin in the afternoon over the volcanic cordillera and northern areas, then intensify at night and shift toward the central and western zones, including the San Salvador metropolitan area. Wind gusts of up to 45 km/h and temperatures between 35 °C and 38 °C are expected, with the hottest spots in La Unión, San Miguel and Nueva Concepción.

Meteorologists Jonathan Hernández and Moisés Urbina explained that the system is being driven by an accelerated easterly flow and mid‑level atmospheric conditions that favor rapid development and movement of the storms. The public was advised to stay alert to weather updates and to take precautions against strong winds and possible lightning.
