Mauritius Brewery faces potential rescue via takeover offer

The Mauritius Brewery in Zwickau, which filed for insolvency in March 2026, may avoid liquidation following a takeover offer. Creditors are scheduled to vote on the sale of the company on September 1, with an expected price of at least 3 million euros.

Insolvency administrator Henry Girbig has expressed optimism regarding the company’s future, noting that the brewery maintains a healthy core business with no outstanding tax or social security debts. The facility currently employs 51 people and continues its operations.

The potential rescue comes amid a broader downturn in the German brewing sector. Data from the Federal Statistical Office indicates that beer sales in Saxony fell by approximately 6.9 percent last year, while nationwide sales dropped by 6 percent, marking the most significant decline since German reunification.
