Mauritius expands security cooperation with India and Saudi Arabia
Mauritius is expanding its international security partnerships through high-level diplomatic engagements with India and Saudi Arabia.
In Mauritius, Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, Chief of the Naval Staff of the Indian Navy, met with Prime Minister Dr. Navin Ramgoolam to discuss maritime security. The discussions focused on enhancing the operational capabilities of the National Coast Guard through technical assistance, training, and hydrographic cooperation. This collaboration aims to better protect Mauritius’s natural resources and its vast Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). As part of the visit, the Admiral presented a commemorative plaque featuring a detailed seabed map produced via side-scan sonar technology.
Simultaneously, in Riyadh, the Mauritian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Mohummad Riad Parvez Hullemuth, met with Acting Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Mohammed bin Ayyaf. The meeting centered on strengthening cooperation between the Mauritius Police Force and Saudi security authorities. Key areas of interest include specialized police training, particularly in combating narcotics trafficking and counter-terrorism, as well as gaining access to advanced security technologies developed in the Kingdom to combat modern forms of crime.
