Mauritius: Fuel price hikes possible at any time, warns Minister

Mauritian Minister of Commerce and Consumer Protection, Michael Sik Yuen, has warned that an increase in gasoline and diesel prices could occur at any time. Speaking in Port-Louis, the minister noted that while local fuel prices remain significantly lower than in some international markets, the State Trading Corporation (STC) is incurring substantial losses by not adjusting prices to reflect global trends.

Currently, gasoline is sold at Rs 70.65 per liter and diesel at Rs 71.25 per liter, following previous revisions in April and August.

Additionally, the minister addressed disruptions in the supply of ration rice. He explained that a shipment was delayed due to vessel issues stemming from ongoing war conflicts. He assured the public that the situation is being monitored closely and that two or three shipments are expected to be dispatched soon, with the supply issue likely resolved within two weeks.
