Mauritius Health Minister confirms successful surgery on Élodie Thomas

Health Minister Anil Bachoo has announced the successful completion of a complex, seven-hour, five-stage surgical operation on 27-year-old Élodie Thomas. The surgery, performed at Dr A. G. Jeetoo Hospital, involved removing a bullet lodged in her jaw near critical blood vessels and nerves.

Medical teams successfully reconstructed her fractured jaw using specialized surgical plates and performed a tracheotomy to secure her airways. The procedure was carried out by visiting specialists from the Great Peninsula alongside local Mauritian medical experts.

Despite the success of the operation, Ms. Thomas remains in intensive care and is not yet out of danger, requiring close medical supervision. The incident follows a shooting at Camp-Levieux, where a police sergeant is accused of firing at the vehicle in which the victim was traveling.
