The International Waqf Conference concluded its three-day session in Port Louis, Mauritius. The event was jointly organized by the Islamic Development Bank Institute and the Mauritius Waqf Foundation under the theme ‘Reviving Waqf for Community Empowerment: Building Strong Waqf Pillars through Strategic Management, Good Governance, and Sustainable Investment.’

The conference featured international delegations from countries including Comoros, Madagascar, Malaysia, Singapore, Maldives, Mozambique, Reunion Island, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, and the United Kingdom, alongside various NGOs and community leaders.

Discussions focused on investment and economic principles of Waqf, governance models, asset development strategies, Islamic finance approaches, and legal documentation. Participants also explored the role of Waqf institutions in enhancing transparency, accountability, and sustainable social impact. A dedicated session addressed the financing of Waqf projects through the Islamic Development Bank’s Waqf Property Development Fund, emphasizing the need for supportive legal frameworks, professional asset management, and innovative financing mechanisms.
