Mauritius police conduct major anti-drug operations in Abercrombie
Mauritian security forces conducted a series of high-visibility anti-drug operations on September 30 and October 1, successfully disrupting local trafficking activities for several hours. The interventions were led by the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU), with support from the Special Mobile Force (SMF) and the Special Support Unit (SSU).
During the first operation on Wednesday, authorities established three drug trafficking offenses and seized six vehicles, which were taken to the Abercrombie police station for investigation. The second, larger-scale operation on Thursday involved continuous patrols using vans and motorcycles to target known drug sales points.
Law enforcement officials noted that the presence of security forces effectively forced a temporary truce among dealers. However, officers reported facing intense surveillance from local lookouts, including individuals on motorcycles and groups gathered at bus stops and roundabouts near the Abercrombie District Headquarters to monitor police movements.
