Mauritius police investigate Chagos Islands drug trafficking network

Mauritian authorities, specifically the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU), suspect the existence of a synthetic drug trafficking network involving members of the Chagos Islands community residing in Crawley, UK, and Cité Roche-Bois, Mauritius.

The investigation follows a series of arrests at Plaisance Airport. Most recently, 21-year-old Marie Nija Crystal Judy Fournier was intercepted arriving from Dubai with 2.86 kilograms of synthetic drugs, valued at approximately Rs 42.9 million, hidden in children's toy containers. This led to the arrest of 31-year-old Warren Dylan Fournier.

This follows previous arrests, including 18-year-old Darell Samuel Cadjee, who was caught with 2.3 kilograms of drugs worth Rs 34.5 million, and 26-year-old Emmanuel Allaghen. Investigators believe the network targets vulnerable young people to act as couriers for transporting drugs into Mauritius.
