Mauritius: Political dispute erupts over Soopramanien Kistnen murder investigation

The investigation into the six year old murder of MSM political agent Soopramanien Kistnen has become a central point of political contention in Mauritius. Simla Kistnen, the widow of the deceased, has accused the ruling Alliance du Changement government of exploiting her personal tragedy for electoral gain. She stated that politicians used her husband's memory during the November 2024 campaign but have since abandoned her and failed to provide updates on the investigation.

In response to recent parliamentary statements by Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam, the Mouvement Socialiste Militant (MSM) has called for an end to the use of the case as a political tool. The MSM criticized the Prime Minister for making unsubstantiated claims regarding destroyed evidence and alleged phone tapping, accusing him of using parliamentary immunity to spread fabrications without providing proof.
