Mauritius tourism grows as Indian arrivals rise 14.5%
Mauritius is expanding its tourism outreach in India, reporting a 14.5% year-on-year increase in Indian visitors, with 51,005 arrivals recorded between January and July 2026. To capitalize on this growth, the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) launched a marketing initiative across four Indian cities: Pune, Chennai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad.
The strategy aims to diversify the Indian market beyond traditional beach holidays and honeymoons. The MTPA is targeting new segments, including family travel, luxury, wellness, golf, gastronomy, adventure, and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions). The initiative involved over 20 Mauritian tourism partners, including airlines, hotels, and destination management companies.
Connectivity between the two nations is supported by Air Mauritius, IndiGo, and Air India. Additionally, Indian passport holders benefit from visa-free access, with visas issued free of charge upon arrival in Mauritius.
