Mauritius issued strong wind and heavy swell warnings

Mauritius is facing severe weather conditions due to a cold front followed by a strong anticyclone approaching the Mascarene Islands from the southwest. The Mauritius Meteorological Services has issued a Strong Wind and Heavy Swell Warning, effective from Friday, August 28, through Sunday, August 30.

Forecasts indicate southeastern winds with mean speeds of 45 km/h and gusts reaching up to 90 km/h. High-energy swells between 4 and 6 meters are expected, which may cause tidal surges and coastal inundations, particularly in low-lying areas of the west and south.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Centre (NDRRMC) has advised the public to strictly avoid all sea and beach activities, including fishing and recreational boating. Authorities also urge caution when traveling on coastal roads due to the risk of strong gusts and crosswinds.
