Maurizio Giammusso, prominent Italian journalist and critic, dies at 74

Maurizio Giammusso, a prominent Italian journalist, writer, and theatre critic, has died at the age of 74. The incident occurred in Capalbio, where Giammusso suffered a sudden medical emergency while swimming. Despite rescue efforts, he could not be saved.

Giammusso was a long-standing figure at the ANSA news agency, serving in the culture and entertainment department until 2010. His career was deeply intertwined with the world of theatre; he was a respected critic, screenwriter, and author who contributed to major publications such as Corriere della Sera and Huffington Post.

He is particularly noted for his extensive research into the life and work of Eduardo De Filippo, most notably in his book ‘Vita di Eduardo’. His legacy continues through upcoming cultural projects, including a production by Sergio Rubini titled ‘I fratelli De Filippo’, which is set to debut in Naples and tour Italy.
